Tell us about your role at AHCU.
I currently am responsible for promoting new business and membership growth while deepening our current relationships with healthcare practices, clinics and companies. I meet with key decision makers, human resources and benefits staff to promote AHCU as a company employee benefit. Financial Wellness is a key aspect of overall wellness!
Have you ever had a mentor? How did he/she help you most?
In a predominantly female-facing industry, I have worked alongside many intelligent and strong-minded women. However, my current manager (who has now been my manager at two places of employment) has been my greatest professional mentor. I am so grateful for the potential he saw in me many years ago, as he has stuck by me through the years and introduced me to the position I am currently in and love. He believed in my drive, saw that I knew the industry well, and was capable of doing more. He has helped me turn a career into my passion, which is people helping people!
Why did you join the TRUST? What keeps you involved as a TRUST member?
I joined the TRUST to meet other women in health care leadership roles, to learn from them, and to gain experience from being around them. I am a firm believer of power in numbers and women are POWERFUL! I also joined the TRUST Marketing Communications Committee to be more engaged in the TRUST and to utilize a platform of women who have similar interests and career experiences.
What is the best career advice you’ve received?
Great things never came from comfort zones. Once I learned to step outside of what I “knew,” I was able to push myself to limits I didn’t know existed. I have gained a greater confidence in myself as well as the industry I work in. I now am excited to try foreign challenges!
What support do you need now to evolve your development as a leader?
I need to learn how to effectively network so that I can keep finding opportunities to grow. I want to see our credit union thrive — and the only way things can continue to move is by pushing forward. There is so much growth potential in health care and finance. I want to be known as a strong leader who can effectively show the correlation between the two industries and how they can help each other to not only my peers and coworkers, but to companies and their leaders as well.
How do you want to support other women in their leadership journeys?
In a world that is changing so rapidly, I want to encourage other women to have a voice. To not be afraid to speak their mind, share their thoughts, and provide solutions. I love encouraging and championing other women for their ideas.
Who inspires you?
My family inspires me the most. My significant other does whatever he can to move up and make changes, and he raises me up and pushes me to do the same. Also, my mother inspires me to do more for the world. She taught me to utilize my voice and skills to become a leader that people can look up to. But lastly, PEOPLE inspire me! I want to hear their stories, understand their journey and make a difference in their lives.
What is something that not many people know about you?
I actually began my professional journey in nursing school and then went on to obtain a psychology degree. Most people wouldn’t know that as I have always worked in the financial industry. Now things have sort of come full circle, as I get to do what I know and provide that knowledge to the people I aspired to be.
Any words of wisdom to live by?
Success isn’t just about what you accomplish in your life, it’s about what you inspire others to do.
