Fawn LopezIn a commentary on the Modern Healthcare website, publisher Fawn Lopez asks whether the health care industry has done all it can to achieve authentic gender equity, diversity and inclusion. She writes that while the industry can take pride in what it's already accomplished in education, research and leadership development of women, there is a long way to go — citing a 2017 study from Fortune showing that women occupy 18% of board seats among the 3,000 largest publicly traded companies, 4% of CEO offices and 11% of CFO positions. And despite women now representing one-third of hospital executives, only 4% of health care CEOs are female, according to a survey from Rock Health.

Lopez writes, "We must put our money where our values are. Women deserve more opportunities to take on profit-and-loss responsibilities and make decisions about enterprise-wide investments. Why not focus our business or clinical partnerships or investments on organizations that champion the recruitment and promotion of women?"

She goes on to name four organizations that are working to make a difference in the lives of women in health care. The Women's Health Leadership TRUST is one of them, joining Women of Impact, The Carol Emmott Fellowship for Women Leaders in Health, and Women Business Leaders in Health Care.
