Speaker: Julie Burton

Julie BurtonJulie Burton is a wellness warrior; her nationally acclaimed book The Self-Care Solution: A Modern Mother’s Must-Have Guide to Health and Well-Being (She Writes Press 2016) gave a voice to women who were seeking community and support. In the book, Julie had the courage to explore and share her own dark spaces of motherhood and battles that few dare to address out loud. She shared how the scars of her teenage battle with an eating disorder showed up as anxiety and depression as she mothered her four children and fought to maintain her identity. Julie also channeled her extensive writing background into teaching creative writing to teenagers and co-founding the Twin Cities Writing Studio, which provides local women with a place to work, ignite their creative spirit, and take care of themselves physically and mentally. Most recently, Julie created ModernWell, which is a woman-centered facility providing a collaborative workspace, writing and wellness.

It seems like everyone wants to publicly share the great things in life — loving parents, perfect spouse, honest children, healthy habits, financial stability, career success — the list could go on. So it takes courage to admit that not everything in life is perfect and even more courage to share it publicly. Julie Burton did just this in her book; since its publication she has shared her message around the country, appearing on local and national media as well as speaking on the topic of self-care (or lack thereof) to dozens of groups and organizations around the country.

Julie channeled her extensive writing background and co-founded the Twin Cities Writing Studio. The women in her writing studio have published books, created businesses, and formed lasting friendships.
