Lessons in Grace Amidst Uncertainty

Senior Vice President of OptumRx Client Services & Pharmacy Benefit Management Operations for Optum

The past months have been unprecedented across the globe. As professionals in the health care industry, we’ve all felt the effects. My thoughts are with anyone who has been impacted by COVID-19, especially those who are sick and under medical care. I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the health care professionals on the front lines working to contain the outbreak and care for patients. Thank you for all you are doing for public safety, even at the risk of your own health. We will get through these times by putting people first and working together.

These past few weeks have required us all to be more mindful as we do our jobs and live our lives. I have been more mindful of what others are experiencing; this has provided new lessons in grace. It’s so important to give ourselves and others some grace during these uncertain times. We’re all going through something monumentally different (and frightening) and many are juggling caring for children and elderly parents, new work environments and more. Now is the time to help out, be understanding and be flexible.

What is normal looks very different for most people right now. And that’s true for the TRUST as well. We have rescheduled our annual Forum to October 27 and paused all in-person programming. We may be working differently, but it does not mean our TRUST work stops. We continue to hold virtual Board and committee meetings, encourage virtual mentor and mentee sessions, move forward with a redesign of the TRUST website and add virtual programming for members until we can meet safely in person again.

We encourage you to register for several virtual networking events as well as for our April 14th program, Impostor Syndrome.

We also want to best meet your needs from us in light of COVID-19. What would be most helpful to you right now from the TRUST? Virtual networking to stay in touch? Links to trusted COVID-19 resources? Other ideas? Please share your thoughts here or at info@whltrust.org.

It’s at times like this when we are guided by our mission to support, inspire and offer insights. Let’s put people first and do the right thing. Let’s be mindful of what others are going through and continue to support one another. Let’s rise together, through the uncertainty, giving each other grace along the way.

Leslie Bodell currently serves as TRUST President and is Senior Vice President of OptumRx Client Services & Pharmacy Benefit Management Operations for Optum. Bodell holds a MBA from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota and a finance degree from Drake University.
