QR Codes A networking innovation utilized at TRUST networking events
QR Codes are the squiggly looking icon you see displayed on the right side of this window. Technically, a QR Code is a customizable barcode that can be scanned with the camera on a smartphone. The barcode can contain all sorts of information, but for the TRUST's purposes, they will be printed on attendee name badges at events.
What does this mean to you? If you have a smartphone, this translates to 'no business card swapping'! Instead, you will point your smart phone at an attendee's name badge and scan their QR Code. Instantly, their name, company, email and phone number are copied right into your contacts on your smartphone!
Isn't that amazing? Here's what you need to do to prepare to use this innovative networking tool:
Install a QR scanner app on your smartphone. Most phones come with a barcode scanner already installed, but if your phone does not, search the web for "QR Reader" and the model of your phone to find a scanner app; they're available for the iPhone, Windows Mobile, Nokia, BlackBerry, and other app-based phones with a camera built in. Click here for an extensive list of QR scanner apps and supported devices. Practice using the scanner app. Once you've installed a scanner app on your smartphone, point it at a QR Code to give it a try (like the TRUST's QR Code at the top and ExtendedOffice's QR Code at the bottom of this email). It's just THAT easy!
