Blue Cross Blue Shield Minnesota 'do' CampaignFebruary 15, 2011
Rethinking Wellness

This inspirational  meeting on "Rethinking Wellness" too a look at the serious side of the 'do' campaign. Attendees gathered at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota in Eagan.

About the ‘do” campaign:
‘do’ is based on a simple idea: By grooving your body each day, you can improve your overall health, achieve a healthy weight and reduce your risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other illnesses.

That’s it. ‘do’ really is that easy. There are so many ways you can move more and eat better wherever you live, work, and play.

About the Presenters:

Pat Geraghty, President and chief executive officerPat Geraghty, President and chief executive officer
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota

Geraghty is responsible for the strategy and operations of the state’s largest health plan, serving 2.7 million members, with a full scope of health plan products and services. He is also a member of the Blue Cross board of trustees and the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Foundation board and chairs the company’s Diversity Council. Geraghty is a frequent speaker on a range of health care topics including impact of health care reform, payment reform strategies, innovation in health care and prevention and wellness. more

Kathy Mock, Senior vice presidentPresenter:
Kathy Mock, Senior vice president, public and health affairs
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota

Mock leads the overall prevention efforts of Blue Cross, which includes the Blue Cross Foundation and the Prevention Minnesota initiative that works to address the harms of tobacco use and obesity throughout Minnesota. One of the most popular campaigns is the do Campaign. While do is fun and reaches people with a light-hearted prodding to be more active and eat right, there is a serious side of do. These factors combine to be the second leading cause of preventable death and are directly related to illnesses such as high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes and heart disease and colon cancer. Today, more than 60 percent of Minnesota adults are overweight or obese -- more than 2.2 million people -- and millions of dollars are spent annually in health care costs to treat illnesses that could otherwise be prevented if Minnesotans moved more, and ate better. more

Kathleen, do Campaign storyteller Presenter: Kathleen, do Campaign storyteller
You might recognize Kathleen from our television commercials for the do campaign. She is a Wabasha County Public Health Nurse and also one of our Blue Cross members who was inspired by our do Campaign. She has been generous enough to share her weight-loss experience and journey to better health with our employees and customers.
